The Importance of Shopping Small During COVID19

It has been quite a while since I’ve posted anything, but I’ve suddenly gained a lot of extra free time since the outbreak of COVID19. When considering what to write about during a tough time like this, I instantly knew that I had to highlight the local businesses that are working their butts off right now to stay afloat. With most businesses shutting down and closing their doors, it’s important to focus on the ones that are doing everything they can to stay open.

Shopping small is important for your community, but even more so during a time like this. Think about it, large chains and retailers prepare for extreme hardships like this and can rebound from financial loss a lot easier than a smaller business can. Small businesses rely strictly on the business of local consumers. So, no local consumers means no money, and no money means no more business.

Small businesses around the Pittsburgh area are creatively coming up with ways to keep consumers happy and their business afloat during the COVID19 nationwide shutdown. With that being said, it’s important to shop small when you can. Don’t leave your house unless it is absolutely necessary, and if you do, be cautious.

Here are some things you can do to help out small businesses during this time:

  1. Buy Gift cards
  2. Order take-out
  3. Use delivery services like Doordash, UberEats, Postmates, etc.
  4. Shop online
  5. Take a Virtual Fitness Class
  6. Share Social Media Posts

During a time like this, it is important to help out our community as much as possible and a big part of that is supporting local businesses in their time of need. I’m doing my part by highlighting a small business in Pittsburgh every week! Please read weekly, share on your social media platforms and take my tips on how to support a local business. Together we will beat this Pittsburgh.
