What is the first word you think of when you think of the city of Pittsburgh? For most people, the first word that pops into mind is SPORTS. Let’s be honest, sports fan or not, we can all agree that the steel city loves their sports teams. Lucky for us yinzers, November marks the middle of both hockey and football season. If you can’t catch a game, you can always join in on a tailgate or watch it at the bar…or both. Whether you want to watch the game or just need an excuse to crack a cold one on a Sunday, these 7 Sports Bars in Pittsburgh will have you covered.
- Tequila Cowboy
Starting off the list strong is Tequila Cowboy in the Northshore. There is a good chance you’ve drunkenly stumbled into Tequila Cowboy at some point in your life, but trust me, Tequila Cowboy on the day of a Steelers game just hits differently. Expect it to be packed full of rowdy Steelers fans from open to close because of its close proximity to Heinz Field. Once the tailgate dies down you can walk across the street to the bar and continue the fun. You can even ride the mechanical bull (It’s harder than it looks).

- Shales
Shales is what I like to call a Pittsburgh “hidden gem” because not that many people know about it. Located right across from PPG Paints Arena, it is the perfect place to get a drink before the Penguins take the ice. Shales has a great atmosphere, great service and cheap drinks! How could you want anything more?
- Carson City Saloon
If Sunday Funday is your thing, then Carson City is your move. Located on East Carson Street in the Southside, Carson City Saloon is a high energy destination for sports and pub food. Plus, on Steeler Sunday they offer 5 for $11 Miller Lite buckets!

- Buckhead Saloon
Although Buckhead Saloon is known as Station Square’s #1 bar and nightclub, it is also a great place to chill out and watch the Steelers. They have 5 projector screens and 20 flats screens, so you could say that there isn’t a bad seat in the house. You can also book a free Steelers Game Day Party and reserve tables for you and your friends. If you book a party you receive FREE Miller Lite pitchers (for every 4 people) and FREE Game Day appetizers (for every 4 people). I don’t know about you, but they had me at FREE.
- Buford’s Kitchen
Also across the street from PPG Paints Arena, Buford’s Kitchen is a great move before a Penguin game. Buford’s Kitchen offers a relaxed atmosphere with Southern influenced food and craft drafts. If you’re looking for a bite to eat to avoid PPG Arena’s absurd prices, you have to try out a Buford’s burger.
- Mullens
Location. Location. Location. Mullens is right across from PNC Park and a few blocks from Heinz Field so it is the perfect spot for a drink or two. Be sure to get there early to get a seat at the bar because it fills up fast! With flat screen TVs in every corner you’ll be sure to not miss a single play.

7. William Penn Tavern
William Penn Tavern in Shadyside is a laid-back sports bar with a heated outdoor space offering typical pub grub and draft beer. This bar has great food, friendly service and cheap drinks. If you’re heading to the William Penn Tavern for the first time, be sure to try out their legendary kitchen sink wings and mac n cheese bites.

So there ya have it folks! Do game day the right way and hit up one of these Pittsburgh Sports Bars for the next big game and always remember to tip your bartenders! If you have a favorite sports bar I didn’t mention in this post be sure to comment below.
